Church Backpacking trip
Time & Location
About The Event
Church backpacking trip to the Cohutta Wilderness. This is a beautiful wilderness area of eastern hardwood forests. The Conasauga River will provide a water source so water will not need to be packed in (water must be filtered or boiled). We will begin at the Hickory Creek Trailhead and then hike up to a very nice camping area on the Conasauga River Trail. The trailhead begins on top of the mountain and follows a gentle sloping trail to the valley floor. The hike in is about 3 miles to the campsite. Our campsite will be left set up for the duration of the weekend. Sabbath morning we will have Church in the Wilderness and after lunch hike take a 3 mile round trip hike to a beautiful waterfall. There will be several river crossings that, depending on water flow, is likely about knee high. Sunday morning there will be a Wilderness Survival Training, for those interested, on emergency shelter construction and fire building. If you are interested in coming let the Nelsons or Andersons know and we will send you a recommended list of items to bring as you will need to provide your own gear and food for the trip.
